C-PERL reliably provides high quality, functional, difficult-to-produce recombinant proteins from microgram quantities for physical or functional analysis through scaled production.

We specialize in the design and optimization of baculovirus constructs for in vivo protein production in insect larvae.  Our molecular tools allow us to enhance expression and solubility, while our experience and expertise facilitate recovery and purification.  

We offer the following custom services:

Baculovirus Design and Optimization.  We employ a wide variety of standard and proprietary molecular tools to create baculovirus constructs that lead to optimal expression and recovery of functional recombinant proteins.  These tools include codon optimization for expression in vivo, standard and proprietary chaperones and insect-specific enhancers including control of proteolytic activity.  We produce native proteins and proteins modified with tags, both cleavable and non-cleavable, to aid in recovery and for other purposes.  The goal is the enhanced recovery of properly modified, folded and assembled protein in the form most useful to the client.

In Vivo Protein Production.  Beginning with a DNA or protein sequence or a client-provided baculovirus we produce recombinant protein-containing insect larvae in our automated production system.  We express genes from any organism, from viruses through plant, animals and humans.  This bulk biomass is frozen, ready for shipment to the client or for processing.  Starting with baculovirus we can provide small quantities of biomass for candidate screening or other testing in four days, and full scale production runs in less than two weeks.

Protein Purification.  Beginning with bulk insect biomass we can provide a target recombinant protein in any required form, from crude lysate through specific, highly purified multimeric forms.  We have had good success in recovering difficult-to-make lipophilic or membrane-associated proteins.
